Online notepad

A plain notepad that keeps your notes in your browser, ready to copy or download.

Saves in this browser as you type

0 words · 0 characters

Kept only in this browser, on your device: your note is never sent anywhere.

How to use the notepad

  1. Type or paste in the box. Your note is saved as you type, and Saved in this browser shows above the box.
  2. Close the page when you like. Come back in the same browser and your note is there.
  3. Press Copy to put the whole note on your clipboard, or Download .txt to save it as a text file.
  4. To start again, press Clear, then Clear it.

Under the box, the note’s words and characters are counted the way the word counter counts them.

How the saving works

Your note is kept in your browser’s local storage, a small space each browser gives each website on your device. Each time you type, the whole note is written there under the name “easifox-notepad”, replacing the copy before. When the note is empty, it’s removed.

That means:

  • It’s in this browser, on this device, only. Open EasiFox in another browser or on your phone and you’ll find another note, or none. Nothing is synced.
  • It stays until something deletes it: you clear it, you delete this site’s data or your browsing data, or the browser removes it. Safari, on iPhone, iPad and Mac, can delete it after seven days of use without a visit to EasiFox, and any browser may when the device runs short of space.
  • A private window forgets it when you close it.
  • It’s one note. Two tabs open on the notepad share it: what you type in one shows in the other.

If your browser blocks storage, the notepad says so: you can still write, but download the note before you leave.

Your privacy

Nothing you type is sent to EasiFox or anyone else. The note goes from the box to your browser’s storage, on your device, and nowhere else. EasiFox never sees it, so it can’t recover a lost note for you.

The other side of that: anyone who uses your browser can open this page and read your note. Keep passwords, card numbers and other secrets out of it: a password manager is made for those, and the password generator makes strong ones. On a shared or public computer, clear the note when you’re done.

Keyboard shortcuts

On a Mac, press Cmd instead of Ctrl.

Keys What they do
Ctrl+S Download the note as a .txt file
Ctrl+A Select the whole note
Ctrl+C, Ctrl+X, Ctrl+V Copy, cut, paste
Ctrl+Z Undo your last change
Ctrl+Y (Cmd+Shift+Z on a Mac) Redo it

Undo works for what you type, not for Clear: a cleared note is gone.

Tips

  • Start with a title. The downloaded file is named after the first line: a note that starts with “Shopping list” downloads as “Shopping list.txt”.
  • Download a copy of anything you’ll need later. A .txt file opens on any computer or phone.
  • Clean up pasted text. Text pasted from a web page or a document loses its bold, links and colours here: paste it in, then copy it out as plain text.
  • Draft before you post. Write a long message, an email or a form answer here first, so a page that reloads or a session that ends doesn’t take your text with it.

Online notepad: questions and answers

Where is my note saved?

In your browser's own storage, on this device, for EasiFox only. It isn't on EasiFox's servers or in any account, and nothing you type is sent anywhere.

Will my note still be there tomorrow?

Yes, in the same browser on the same device, unless you clear it, delete this site's data or use a private window. Safari can also delete it after seven days of use without a visit to EasiFox. Download a copy of anything important.

Can I see my note on my phone and my computer?

No. Each browser keeps its own note, and nothing is synced. To move a note, copy it or download it, then send it to yourself.

Can I keep several notes?

There's one note per browser. Separate topics with a blank line and a title, or download a note as its own file, then clear it and start the next one.

Is it safe for private notes?

It's as safe as your device. Nothing is sent anywhere, but anyone who uses this browser can open the page and read your note. Keep passwords and card numbers out of it.

Why does it say my note won't be kept?

Your browser blocks storage for this site, often because of a private mode or a setting that blocks cookies and site data. The notepad still works while the page is open, so download your note before you close it.
